Anyway. Did some more sketching last night. I realized that the shadows on the wall behind the pears was kinda cool. So I sketched them too. I like this one. So I think tonight I will paint it. I think the shadows are kinda neat, and I like the way the line on the tablecloth is about parallel with the shadow on the wall. We shall see.
The plums and pear one is okay, but I think I got caught up in the cloth, and didn't pay attention to making the plums not look quite so wonky. But I like this one too. The white cloth against the dark plums is quite striking.
So tonight I will begin my wet in wet adventure. Sandly Maudlin posted a fantastic little tutorial on her site today...all about this technique. Good timing...great lesson. Check it out!
Not much else to say. Kinda glum...need sunshine. February is a cranky month.
Tell me a story. I like the company.

Beautiful drawing, Tracy. Your shading is so subtle; the folds in the cloth soft and sensual. You really depicted the plums and pears with great care and attention ... it makes them seem like figures! I like the background in the top one too--it suggests space without representing too much; the lines in the foreground are perfect! Wet in wet is the hardest technique for me, so I will check out Sandy's advice! Thanks!
Thanks Laura! I am having a great time with the drawing, but not doing so great with the wet in wet...very frustrating. Not sure I'm in the right frame of mind for trying something new...maybe I'll just stick to the drawing for awhile.
Thanks for stopping by!!
Your drawings are so nicely done. It will be fun to see you turn them into paintings.
My sister Mickey (Michelle Himes to you) and I spent the day together yesterday doing fun art activities. We're taking a workshop in South Carolina next month so we went shopping for art materials for the class. Then we went back to her house and painted a bit. We spent some time discussing Myrna's new project and how to go about it. I'm going to check out Sandy's advice too.
Keep warm!!!
Hi Joan - You are so lucky to have an 'art partner'! I need to find me one of those! I like Myrna's new project, but am having a heck of a time with this wet in wet thing! It's so different from what I normally do. I'll keep slogging away!
Wow. I love your sketches and drawing and your poplar trees watercolor is absolutely beautiful. I just adore it. Thanks for stopping by.
-24C is indeed rude. Can you even breath or think. I will have brain freeze. It's 60 degrees here today, so I may wear a long sleeved shirt.
Hi ces - Thank you! So glad you stopped by to visit!
Yes, -24C is rude, but this morning it was -40C...though it's warmed right up to -30 now. Nasty.
Tracy, I really like your drawings you are doing - the plums are delicious looking to me against the rest of the pale elements. Can't wait to see your painting of these - don't worry about the wet-in-wet. Just remember to let the paint do all the work for you, tipping the paper and letting it blend that way. And then if it's too pale, let it dry and rewet it and drop more color in :) Have fun!
Thanks Rhonda - Still plugging away at it...and not exactly loving every minute of it. I don't know how to reconcile this technique with the way I normally paint...it's driving me crazy...er...
Interesting to see the sketching...or drawing. The plums and pears are particularly nice, they have some lovely modelling and rendering in them. Nice sense of form as surface, like a painting almost!
Thanks Clive - I'm loving the drawing, but having trouble translating them into paintings. So of course, I'm painting something completely different! My problem solving skills are fabulous!
Thanks for dropping by.
Keep drawing its good for the soul.
Thanks Ron...I knew there was a good reason! My soul has been woefully neglected...poor little heathen...
Nice pears. I get a good sense of form. sketching is so important. It makes us better painters.
Thanks for visiting my blog. Sorry about your rude weather.
Thank you Silvina - And thanks for dropping by for a visit! Always love having new visitors...it can be lonely out here in blogland...
